Discharge checklist curbs bariatric surgery readmissions

Researchers from Celebration Health Florida Hospital told the Obesity Week conference that using a discharge protocol checklist and following up with bariatric surgery patients increased the length of hospital stays but led to a 46% overall reduction in readmissions. Discharge protocols covered pain and nausea levels, the ability to tolerate pain and nausea medications, the ability to drink fluids and respiratory values.
