Ore. district brings in discovery-based math curriculum

An Oregon district has adopted the College Preparatory Mathematics curriculum for students in sixth through eighth grades in an effort to meet the Common Core State Standards. The curriculum puts less emphasis on the rote "plug and chug," said middle-school principal Rian Petrick, and instead focuses more on discovery and asking students to explain the basis for their work. The move has been controversial with some parents, who now are homeschooling their students in math.
