Nikki Sinclaire, a member of the European Parliament, revealed on Sunday that she was born male and underwent gender reassignment surgery at the age of 23. Sinclaire said she suffered complications from the surgery but does not regret the decision. "If I hadn't become a woman, I would have led a lonely, neurotic life, forever out of place, endlessly consulting doctors and therapists at public expense," Sinclaire said. Sinclaire later noted an outpouring of support "from across the political spectrum" following her coming out.
