Prison Inmates Spend Big On Convenience Foods

Iowa's 8,100 prison inmates spend about $2.5 million annually on convenience items, including snacks and tobacco. To meet demand, Iowa Prison Industries has centralized sales in a new, 20,000-square-foot distribution center. Among the most popular items are ramen noodles, which sell for 24 cents per package.
