Survey: Lack of motivation does not explain achievement gap

Black and Hispanic students are just as likely to be motivated to learn as their white and Asian peers, a study released yesterday by the Minority Student Achievement Network has found. Nearly half of the black and Hispanic students surveyed said they were less likely to understand their teachers' lessons fully, indicating that teaching methods may need to be rethought.
