Study finds statins, fibrates do not prevent melanoma

Results from a review of trials involving almost 71,000 participants show standard doses of cholesterol-lowering statins and fibrates do not prevent melanoma as suggested by earlier research. Although, there is "promising evidence" from in vitro and animal models that statins, such as lovastatin, and fibrate drugs, such as gemfibrozil, may reduce the risk of melanoma, the researchers report.
