Is the economy making companies more social?

It's anecdotal to be sure, but the Twitter followers of Social Media Today blogger Dawn Foster are reporting an uptick in business inquiries regarding social media marketing -- perhaps because of the sinking economy. Foster suggests it's possible that as companies rethink their marketing strategies to accommodate new budgetary realities, low-cost marketing approaches such as social media and Twitter efforts are more appealing.
