Google pulls plug on virtual world

Google's virtual world "Lively" is shutting down after about five months. A Google memo announcing the news stated the company was moving to "focus more on our core search, ads and apps business." One commentator on Silicon Alley Insider wryly noted: "Too bad Google has never figured out how to monetize this one, people will probably spend more time in virtual realities now that they are out of their jobs."
