A more diverse group of parents, frustrated with the state of U.S. schools, are increasingly teaching their children at home, with an analysis of data from a 2001 survey showing that fewer than one-third cited religious reasons as their motivation. "The school system in this country -- public and private -- is designed for the industrial age," said actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who schools her two children and a nephew at home. "We're in a technological age. We don't want our kids to memorize. We want them to learn."
