Several retailers have challenges to overcome heading into the holiday season in addition to fending off increased online competition and coping with technology that gives shoppers more options for real-time product research and price comparisons. Gap and Zale are in the midst of brand-turnaround efforts, Target is working to keep shoppers coming back after the Black Friday rush, and Wal-Mart is working to regain its title as low-price leader.
