DesertXpress project gains approval from BLM

The $6.5 billion DesertXpress bullet train project has received authorization from the Bureau of Land Management for right-of-way construction on BLM-administered public property. The Surface Transportation Board and the Federal Railroad Administration gave the same approval to the 185-mile, double-track project earlier this year. The high-speed rail route from Las Vegas to Victorville, Calif., is expected to begin construction and engineering work in 2012.
