Fuel cells that use hydrocarbons to hit the market soon

Solid-oxide fuel cells that can run on propane, natural gas or diesel may be ready for commercial distribution in a few years. "Compared to any other device that converts chemical energy into electricity, the fuel cell, and in particular the solid-oxide or ceramic fuel cell, is hands down the most efficient," according to University of Maryland Energy Research Center Director Eric Wachsman.
