Try these opening lines while networking

Approaching a small group at a conference and asking "What am I interrupting?" is a great way to join a conversation without being awkward, David Sparks writes. A straightforward "Can I join you" also works. One of the worst things you can do is ask "How can I help you?" right away. "It’s bogus. Avoid it and avoid the person who asked the question way too early," Sparks writes.
