Community colleges turn to online advising for students

Community colleges increasingly are turning to online advisement to help students choose courses and attain degrees. Software already is available to four-year colleges to alert advisers when students begin to falter in their studies, and one company is working to develop a similar tool tailored to community colleges and the students they serve. However, challenges remain and some say students prefer to face-to-face advisement when it comes to navigating college.
