Don't take a break from the job search during the holidays

Candidates should step up -- rather than take a break from -- their job search in December, career coach Miriam Salpeter suggests. Many companies "find" extra money in their budgets or have unexpected projects that require them to hire extra staff, and December is a good time to call or send cards to valuable connections, she notes. "Don't turn all of your holiday notes into pleas for a job, but you can subtly incorporate your future plans into a note wishing your colleagues well," Salpeter writes.
