Feds' decision is good news for Chicago's push to rebuild Red, Purple Lines

The Chicago Transit Authority's proposed rebuild of its Red and Purple Lines' tracks has received approval to seek funding under a new "core capacity" program. The move means the CTA can start "on the environmental work necessary for design construction of the planned rebuilding," said Christina Mulka, spokeswoman for Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. The project may cost several billion dollars.
