Google touts civic API, bring third-party apps to Marketplace

Google has developed a Civic Information application programming interface, permitting developers to link constituents with their government representatives. "In addition to elected representatives, the API also returns your political jurisdictions using Open Civic Data Identifiers," blogged Google's Jonathan Tomer. In other news, Google is curating some third-party apps in its Marketplace in an attempt to make them easier to use. In addition, a new Google Play Newsstand will highlight about 1,900 free and paid publications, collecting news based on user-expressed preferences.
