Hillshire aims for additional M&A

Hillshire Brands purchased Golden Island, a gourmet-jerky producer, in September for $35 million and is eyeing more acquisitions in 2014. "It's a great acquisition environment," CEO Sean Connolly said. Hillshire was created when Sara Lee spun off its operation for tea and coffee, then renamed itself. The company also is looking to expand healthful offerings with chicken and turkey products.
