Honey companies consider verification system

True Source Honey, a compendium of U.S. honey companies that strives to prevent illegal importation of honey, is mulling a manufacturer-focused certification system. Currently, True Source focuses on retailers, and has certified about one-third of the honey sold in North America, according to Eric Wenger, chairman of True Source. The U.S. imports about 60% of its honey supply, and while most is legally sourced, two major suppliers admitted this year to buying illegally imported honey from China.
