RD: Health claims on food labels can be misleading

Food labels that can mislead people into thinking products are healthy include "no sugar added," "cholesterol-free" and "whole grain," registered dietitian Tamara Duker Freuman writes. She notes that products without added sugars still can contain high levels of sugar, that cholesterol-free foods may contain saturated or trans fats, and that whole-grain labels do not ensure a food is free from unhealthy ingredients.
