Canine flu: Where and what are the risks?

Certain parts of the country are hot spots for canine influenza, and dogs under stress, such as those rescued from Superstorm Sandy, may be more susceptible, but risk remains low in other areas. Veterinarians near Saratoga Springs, N.Y., handled the area's first known case this week. Canine influenza is usually not fatal and does not spread as easily as influenza in humans. However, rescue dogs from cities such as New York and Denver, dogs of certain breeds and those that come into contact with many other canines are at higher risk.
