How an engineer shaped Twitter

Sam Ritchie trained as a mechanical and aerospace engineer at Princeton but found his calling as the developer of one of the key programs used by the hot social network Twitter. Ritchie's tool, Summingbird, "lets even rather green programmers quickly and relatively easily construct software that rapidly analyzes massive amounts of online data," Cade Metz writes. "At Twitter -- where about 5,700 tweets are posted every second -- that's something pretty close to gold."
