Investor takes Darden spinoff proposal up a notch

Activist investor Barington Capital has hired investment bank Houlihan Lokey to independently review the hedge fund's proposal that Darden Restaurants split into separate companies, one to run the Olive Garden and Red Lobster chains and the other to operate faster-growing specialty brands including LongHorn Steakhouse and Capital Grille. Barington has also proposed that Darden explore options for creating a publicly traded real estate investment trust to maximize the value of the company's real estate holdings.
