A federal jury on Thursday gave Apple $290 million out of the $370 million in damages the company had requested in its battle with Samsung Electronics over violations related to iPhone patents. That prize is in addition to the $640 million that Judge Lucy Koh awarded after reducing the jury's original $1.05 billion verdict. Samsung, which plans to appeal, had asked that Apple be given $52 million. An appeals court ordered a new trial focusing on the damages after ruling Judge Koh had erred in calculating the lower award.
