NHTSA updates rules on crash-test ratings' use in advertising

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has updated its guidelines on the use of government crash-test ratings in automakers' advertisements after Tesla Motors touted its Model S as having a 5.4-star rating. "Tesla's claim was an example of the potential confusion and inaccuracy that could be caused by incorrect use of the five-star ratings information in advertising and marketing statements," NHTSA said in a statement.
