Too much time playing sports may negatively affect teens' well-being

A study of more than 1,200 16- to 20-year-olds in Switzerland revealed that low and very high levels of weekly sports participation both were associated with lower well-being scores than an average of 3.6 to 10.5 hours of sports. Although European, American and World Health Organization recommendations call for at least seven hours of activity every week for teens, researchers said that about 14 hours of sports activity yielded the highest well-being scores. The findings appear in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood.
