Missouri business group backs stem cell initiative

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry said it supports an initiative to seek a statewide vote on allowing patients to have diseases or injuries treated with stem cell cures, as well as establishing ethical and safety guidelines for embryonic stem cell research in the state. The Secretary of State's office last week gave permission to the Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving Cures to seek at least 150,000 signatures to place the measure on the November 2006 ballot.
