Test-preparation programs target gifted assessments for preschoolers

Courses to prepare young students for admission to kindergarten-level gifted programs are growing in popularity in New York City. Parents pay fees that can top $1,000 to enroll their preschoolers in programs that provide tutoring and preparation for gifted assessment exams. While some New York City private schools discourage the test preparation, public-school officials offer practice tests to prospective students to "level the playing field" for admission to gifted kindergarten programs.
