The rise of social networks has reduced the number of degrees of separation between any two people, Facebook researchers say. It's now possible to move from one person to another anywhere on the planet in an average of 4.74 friend-to-friend steps. "When considering even the most distant Facebook user in the Siberian tundra or the Peruvian rain forest, a friend of your friend probably knows a friend of their friend," Facebook's data-scientists wrote in a blog post.
