Expert predicts advances in healing with integrative treatments

Simultaneously treating wounds and underlying conditions with regenerative medicine, collagen-based therapies, hyperbaric oxygen and negative-pressure therapies offers great promise in the field of wound care, says Harold Brem, chief of the Division of Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in New York. "If you use any of these treatments alone, they are not likely to succeed, because the multiple underlying physiological impairments cannot be overcome. It is simultaneous treatment ... that is effective," he said.
