App.net releases push notifications feature

App.net has developed a push-notification feature called Broadcasts, possibly the first "killer app" of the year-old application hosting platform, App.net founder Dalton Caldwell says. Broadcasts "allows third-parties to connect directly with audiences," Jon Russell writes. On the consumer end, alerts received can be customized to an app user's liking. Caldwell cautioned developers from overdoing notices, warning that subscribers can turn them off at any time.
