More women are working in the IT industry, but they still appear to constitute less than half of all new hires, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and represent less than 25% of the engineering labor force at tech vendors. The fact that more females are tallied in the industry may reflect that more men left IT-related jobs in the past year and that the data comprises all types of jobs, not only technical jobs, Claire Cain Miller writes.
