PCMA warns against copay cards in exchange-sold plans

Premiums for health insurance plans sold through Affordable Care Act exchanges may be subsidized by the federal government and thus should be subject to anti-kickback laws that forbid the use of copay cards and coupons, PCMA says. Copay cards and similar devices "are designed to induce patients to ignore formularies, networks, and other tools that make benefits more affordable by encouraging patients to choose generic drugs and other less expensive options," PCMA said in a statement.
