Chocolate ingredient shown effective against coughs

Researchers report a key ingredient in chocolate is significantly more effective than codeine for stopping coughs. Unlike most cough treatments, theobromine has no adverse effects on the cardiovascular or central nervous systems and does not make people drowsy. At the doses tested, theobromine was a third more effective than codeine, and the researchers suggest its effectiveness could be even greater with larger doses.
