Virginia trees fall to Capital Beltway project

Construction on four high-occupancy toll lanes will uproot hundreds of acres of trees along the Capital Beltway in Virginia. The trees currently serve as a sound buffer between the highway and residential neighborhoods. "The Beltway is going to be a far different facility than what it is now, both in appearance and in operation," said Sharon S. Bulova, Fairfax County supervisor.
