The changing role of the school librarian

The traditional role of school libraries has changed, and librarians are essential to student learning -- especially in the areas of multimedia skills and technology -- according to speakers at the American Association of School Librarians' annual conference this month. "School library media specialists are crucial to the teaching and learning process," the AASL president said. "It's not enough for kids to know how to read anymore; they must be savvy in a multitude of literacies essential in managing information."
