Column: Remote-controlled mower enters gadget contest

A remote-controlled lawn mower that was entered into a recent contest consists of a small development board based on an Atmel ATmega microcontroller, wheelchair motors and a radio-frequency remote control transmitter/receiver pair, writes Steve Ravet. Ravet said building a similar mower would be somewhat difficult because it involves embedded programming, electronics and soldering as well as some metalwork and fabrication. "Take it on, however, and you could find yourself relaxing in the hammock while the yard is mowed," he writes.
