In Texas, 20 regional education service centers provide curriculum plans and training for teachers from smaller school districts that cannot afford their own programs. At the centers, established by the state Board of Education in 1967, districts can buy into cooperatives that provide workshops to strengthen instruction in subjects such as math, science and special education. The sessions are taught by educators with expertise in the fields. Nationwide, there are 620 regional education service centers in 42 states.
