Renewables offer chance for Rust Belt to shine again

The Rust Belt, an area of the country hit by economic hard times well before the recession, is finding opportunities with the renewable-energy industry. More companies are looking to the Midwest, with its skilled workforce and manufacturing infrastructure, and adapting plants that once made cars to produce solar and wind equipment. Renewable-power sources require many of the same types of components -- steel, glass and gears -- used by the auto industry, making the transition easier.
