Teachers look beyond test scores to identify gifted students

An Oregon school district has made identifying gifted students a top priority -- a task that can be more difficult for a district with a large number of poor students and English-language learners. Teachers say gifted students are not necessarily the top achievers, and they are looking for other clues, including imagery in language, problem-solving talent, speed in understanding, independence and leadership.
