Treasury wrestles with rapidly increasing debt-service costs

The Treasury Department is trying to lock in low interest rates as it faces mounting debt repayments. Treasury has taken on new debt at a time when the Federal Reserve is expected to increase interest rates and when short-term borrowing is about to come due. Debt service is expected to top $700 billion annually by 2019.
