Should Thanksgiving parties give way to academic lessons?

Teachers at a Wisconsin elementary school say they are not celebrating Thanksgiving with class parties. Rather, students are reading and writing about the holiday in what teachers say is an increasingly academic focus. Students still draw turkeys and write what they are thankful for, but teachers say lessons also include typing ideas.
