American Express is the engine behind the movement to turn the Saturday after Thanksgiving into a celebration of buying local. Experts cite American Express' desire to win a larger share of consumer transactions in what is expected to be a lean shopping season. "There's bad co-opting and there's good corporate co-opting, and I definitely read this as good corporate co-opting," said Dana Eness, executive director of the Urban Conservancy in New Orleans.
