House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., are leading an effort to take back $3.3 billion in federal grants allocated to California's proposed high-speed rail project. They argue that the project is not well planned and its estimated cost continues to rise. "We can't afford it when we have a $15 trillion debt that continues to grow and California is broke," said Denham.
