HIV/AIDS report update shows disease rising more rapidly in women

An international report on HIV/AIDS says there are more cases of AIDS infections in the world today than ever before and nearly half of those infected are women. The joint U.N.-WHO annual update of their HIV/AIDS count notes a 7.7% increase in the numbers to 39.4 million, and the increasing number of women with the disease is considered an emerging pattern that troubles experts because it indicates the disease is maturing.
