Marriott and Starwood suspend Hawaii construction

Marriott and Starwood both have halted construction projects in Hawaii due to the stalled economy. Marriott stopped vertical construction on its $1.4 billion Kauai Lagoons resort but will continue infrastructure work. Starwood Vacation Ownership postponed plans for its $304 million project to build Maui time shares. "The overall sales pace in Hawaii has slowed considerably due to the global economic conditions," said David Matheson, vice president of corporate communications for Starwood.
