Parents struggle to raise children with mental illnesses

Canadian children with mental illnesses often lack specialized pediatric psychiatric care, and many family doctors are unequipped to handle the diagnosis and treatment of such disorders, parents and advocates say. "I'm amazed at how many people don't believe mental illness exists in children," says Ian Manion, executive director of the Centre for Excellence in Child and Mental Health at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
