Energy-storage technology gets boost from federal funds

Sixteen companies specializing in energy storage received a total of $185 million in government grants on Tuesday. The grants are part of the $4 billion in stimulus funds that the Department of Energy is distributing to promote smart-grid technology. The money will help spur development of advanced batteries and compressed air-storage technology.
