GDP expansion in U.S. revised downward to 2.8% for Q3

The U.S. economy expanded at an annual rate of 2.8% in the third quarter, not the 3.5% indicated earlier, the Commerce Department said. The agency said consumer spending fell short of its estimate, the trade deficit was bigger and commercial construction was not as strong as initially thought. The revision falls slightly short of the 2.9% growth forecast by economists polled by Thomson Reuters.
