Health industry, lawmakers fail to tackle fraud amid reform efforts

U.S. authorities and the health care industry are still struggling to crack down on Medicare fraud despite increased attention driven by reform efforts. Congress must "put the resources and teeth behind" efforts to end the illegal practice, which accounts for 3% to 10% of federal health spending annually, said Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., chairman of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.
